Clutch defeats Lloyd

John Lloyd and Adrian Cavenagh's good run on the Quinton Rally on Saturday 4th July came to an abrupt end during the afternoon stages on the forestry roads in the Eppynt district . The clutch which had only been fitted a few miles earlier over heated and caught fire. The crew had held tenth position throughout the day.

The Insurantz Ford Focus WRC had pulled into management service two stages earlier and as the car was leaving one of the BTR engineers noticed smoke rising from the bonnet. As Lloyd had started the engine the seal had blown out of the hydraulic pressure pump spraying oil on to the clutch. The two engineers worked efficiently with speed to change the pump and clutch, keeping the crew within time to continue the event. On the next stage Lloyd reported that the clutch needed bleeding and this was done. As the crew crossed the finish line of stage six the clutch had overheated and caught fire, ending their good run.

Will Nicholls and Nick Broom won the event in their Subaru Impreza WRC. Andrew Barnes did not compete on this Welsh event as he had prior commitments to his other passion, fishing in Iceland.

After this non finish Lloyd is now lying 14th overall in the Silverstone BTRDA Championship with team mate Andrew Barnes in 15th place.

Lloyd has now decided to enter the Swansea Bay rally on Saturday 18th July, an event where he has enjoyed success in past years.
