Another blow for Barnes |
Last weekends Plains Rally which was based in Welshpool was not the most successful for the Insurantz Rally Team. John Lloyd had Craig Thorley in the co-drivers seat due to his regular partners both being unfit to compete.
The heavy rains produced slippery surfaces and the drivers faced their first challenge of the day in Mick Jones woodyard, the location for the first stage. Andrew Barnes claimed ninth fastest, however John Lloyd was not so lucky finding no grip on the last square right corner, sliding onto the grass losing valuable seconds.
At the lunch halt in Dolgellau Andrew Barnes was ahead of John Lloyd and the drivers chose wider tyres for the remaining stages. The afternoon stage times were quicker than the morning runs with John Lloyd taking an 8th and 9th fastest time. Unfortunately for Barnes he suffered an electrical problem on stage six , the crew carried out repairs to get the car running but were out of time when they reached the next time control.
Lloyd climbed back up the leader board finishing 14th overall. The teams next outing is the Dukeries Rally based in Newark on Saturday 13th June.
