Dry and Sunny Day in Kielder |
The two JLT Rally Team Porsche 911's competing in the 2011 Tuthill Porsche Challenge were in action on Saturday 30th April competing on the Pirelli Historic Rally. The forty nine mile stage event based at Carlisle Racecourse started from the Kielder Visitor Centre.
Competitors enjoyed a great days rallying with six classic Stages in the Kielder forest. Due to a prior commitment Andrew Barnes was unable to compete and Jimmy McRae stepped in to drive his yellow Porsche. John Lloyd was in the second car competing on his second event in the Tuthill Challenge.
It was an all Escort battle at the front of the Pirelli Historic Rally with Julian Reynolds and Nick Elliott continuing to set the pace. Reynolds sneaked ahead by just two seconds on Shepherdshield but his joy was short lived as he was sidelined by mechanical gremlins on the Pundershaw loop.
That left Nick Elliott and Chris Brooks out in front, with Will Onions the best of the rest. John Lloyd and Adrian Cavenagh retired on the first of the afternoon stages in Shephershield with a broken brake caliper. Team mates Jimmy McRae and Pauline Gullick finished second in class after an unusually dry and sunny day in Kielder.
The teams next outing competing in the Tuthill Porsches will be the Severn Valley Rally based in Builth Wells on Saturday 4th June. John Lloyd and Adrian Cavenagh will be in action on the Plains Rally based in Welshpool on Saturday 14th May driving Julian Reynolds Subaru Impreza WRC.
